On the first day of the monsoon session, the Opposition fiercely criticized the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the Lok Sabha over the NEET controversy. Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, accused Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan of blaming everyone but himself for the alleged issues in the NEET-UG exam. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also attacked Pradhan, saying students would not receive justice as long as he remained the education minister.
Gandhi sharply criticized Pradhan, saying, “I don’t even think he understands the basics of what is happening here…” He called it a systemic issue and questioned what the government was doing to fix it.
Gandhi pointed out that millions of students were worried about the fairness of the exam system. He claimed that many people believed the Indian examination system was corrupt and could be bought with money. He added that the Opposition shared this concern.
Other opposition members demanded an overhaul of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the NEET-UG. Yadav highlighted ongoing student protests and investigations, saying, “Students will not get justice if this minister continues,” and noted that some centers had over 2,000 students passing.
