Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., did not endorse Vice President Kamala Harris at a Detroit rally on Friday. With fellow “squad” member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and United Auto Workers members, Tlaib encouraged Michigan residents to vote but left Harris unmentioned.
While Ocasio-Cortez and others voiced their support for Harris, Tlaib remained focused on urging voter turnout without endorsing her.
Tlaib’s approach reflects her disapproval of the Biden-Harris administration’s response to the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. Many Muslims and Arabs in Michigan, a key part of her constituency, share her concern.
Earlier, Tlaib told MSNBC that some constituents are looking for other candidates who support a ceasefire and better community protections.
Meanwhile, Harris’s campaign has been reaching out to both Jewish voters in Pennsylvania, emphasizing support for Israel, and Michigan’s Muslim voters, who feel strongly about Gaza, showcasing her nuanced stance on the conflict.
