Hyderabad’s Safdaria Girls High School celebrated its 90th anniversary on December 2 with a special event called Annisa: A Tribute to Begum Sugra Humayun Mirza.
This tribute honored the visionary woman who founded the school in 1934 to educate Muslim girls, defying societal norms of the time. Begum Sugra, denied formal education herself, dreamed of a future where young girls could access learning and opportunities.
The event occurred at the Humayunnagar Convention Hall, filled with excitement and pride. On one side, students in uniforms sat eagerly, watched closely by their teachers. On the other, proud parents held their phones, ready to capture their children’s every moment.
A board near the entrance showcased the school’s inspiring alumni, including doctors, engineers, and educators. Notable names included Dr. Kauser Fatima, a microbiologist, and Asifa Tabassum, a chemistry lecturer.
For 90 years, Safdaria Girls High School has stood as a beacon of hope, proving that educating girls can uplift entire communities—a vision Begum Sugra boldly brought to life.
