During an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press with Kristen Welker, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont shared mixed thoughts about President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden.
Sanders acknowledged that as a father, Biden’s desire to protect his son from political attacks is understandable. However, he also warned that the wide scope of the pardon could set a risky precedent for future presidents.
Despite his concerns, Sanders praised Biden’s presidency, calling him the most progressive president since Franklin D. Roosevelt. He highlighted the strength of the U.S. economy, noting that it is in “very strong shape” in many areas.
On the topic of raising the minimum wage, Sanders discussed his willingness to work with President-elect Trump to increase it.
Sanders pointed out that the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour has not changed since 2009. He also mentioned his failed attempt two years ago to raise it to $15 an hour, noting that no Republicans voted in favor of the measure.
