The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Trump administration on two cases involving the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), granting the agency access to Social Security systems containing sensitive data on millions of Americans. The conservative majority sided with the administration, while the three liberal justices dissented.
The decisions come amidst tensions between President Trump and Elon Musk, who once led DOGE. Despite their messy fallout, both men have stated that DOGE’s work will continue.
In one case, the Supreme Court blocked a Maryland judge’s order restricting DOGE’s access to the Social Security Administration, which holds critical personal data, including school, salary, and medical records. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson expressed concerns about privacy risks, stating the ruling allows “unfettered data access to DOGE” without clear justification or compliance with privacy protections.
