Chicago – March 17, 2025

President Donald Trump recently claimed that pardons issued by President Joe Biden to members of the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, as well as others, are invalid.

Trump argued that the pardons were signed using an autopen, meaning Biden did not personally sign or approve them. He further claimed that Biden was unaware of the pardons and suggested that those responsible for signing them might have committed a crime.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “The ‘Pardons’ that Sleepy Joe Biden gave to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs…are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT.”

He also accused members of the committee of destroying evidence during their investigation and suggested they should be investigated. Trump’s comments focused on his belief that the pardons were signed without Biden’s knowledge, calling it a mistake by the president.

When asked if he thought the pardons were valid, Trump said, “I think so. It’s not my decision. That would be up to a court.” His remarks add to ongoing political debates surrounding the investigation into the Capitol riot and the use of pardons.
