Former President Donald Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a Truth Social post on Wednesday, calling him “a dictator without elections.” Trump’s comments came after U.S. and Russian officials met to discuss terms to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine without Ukrainian involvement.
Trump claimed that Zelenskyy was “very low in Ukrainian polls” and accused him of being good at manipulating President Joe Biden. He also suggested that Zelenskyy “better move fast” or risk losing his country. Zelenskyy recently decided to cancel Ukraine’s 2024 election due to the ongoing war and martial law, in line with the Ukrainian Constitution.
On Tuesday, Trump stated that Zelenskyy would lose if an election were held, mentioning that his approval ratings were only 4%. However, a recent Kyiv International Institute of Sociology poll revealed that 57% of Ukrainians trust Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy responded to these claims, stating, “We have seen this disinformation,” and suggested that Trump “lives in this disinformation space.”
