Former President Donald Trump’s recent statements opposing Florida’s new six-week abortion ban have stirred controversy among his supporters and pro-life advocates. Critics, including well-known figures and social media users, accuse Trump of betraying the pro-life movement that once strongly backed him.
A user on X claimed that Trump has harmed the conservative movement more than former President Barack Obama ever did.
Former Vice President Mike Pence responded by reasserting his pro-life stance on X. At the same time, Erick Erickson, a Georgia-based radio host, criticized Trump for causing division within the GOP instead of uniting it against opponents.
Trump’s comments have also come at a time when he expressed on Truth Social that his administration would support women’s reproductive rights, indicating he would not limit access to abortion medications.
Despite these controversies, Trump has maintained his opposition to late-term abortions and proposes that states should decide their abortion laws following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. This stance differs from the Republican Party’s recent move away from seeking strict abortion restrictions.
