Chicago – December 31, 2024
President-elect Donald Trump has given his full support to Speaker Mike Johnson ahead of next month’s House speakership vote. On Monday, Trump wrote on Truth Social, calling Johnson a “good, hardworking, religious man” who will “do the right thing.”
Trump said Johnson has his “Complete & Total Endorsement” and encouraged Republicans to act wisely, describing the GOP as “the Party of COMMON SENSE.”
Trump celebrated his 2024 election victory, highlighting wins in seven swing states, 317 electoral votes, and millions of popular votes. He criticized the delay in California’s certification and warned Republicans not to squander the opportunity they’ve been given.
The GOP faces internal struggles after last week’s government funding fight. A Trump-backed bill failed with only 174 votes, while another passed with more Democrat support than Republican. Immigration has also caused divisions, with GOP leaders Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk supporting H1-B visas for skilled foreign workers.
According to predictions, 4-10 Republicans may oppose Johnson in the Jan. 3 vote, as party unity remains a challenge.
