Former President Donald Trump gained more support from Black and Latino voters in the recent election compared to 2020, according to a nationwide survey of over 120,000 voters by AP VoteCast. This shift was especially strong among men under 45.
Although Vice President Kamala Harris secured the majority of Black and Latino votes, it wasn’t enough to win the presidency due to Trump’s improvements in these groups. Across all voters, the economy and jobs were the top concerns, including for Black and Hispanic communities.
About 30% of Black men under 45 supported Trump, nearly double his share from 2020. Among young Latino men, roughly half voted for Trump, a noticeable increase from the 60% who backed Biden in the last election.
Juan Proaño, CEO of LULAC, a leading Hispanic civil rights group, said Trump’s focus on the economy clearly appealed to Latino voters. This suggests his messaging struck a chord with those seeking economic stability.
