Chicago – September 27, 2025

President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of U.S. troops to Portland, Oregon, authorizing the use of “full force” if needed to suppress ongoing protests targeting immigration detention facilities.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced he had directed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to send troops to safeguard what he described as “war-ravaged Portland” and to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities from what he called attacks by Antifa and “other domestic terrorists.”

The president did not clarify whether the deployment would involve National Guard forces or regular U.S. military personnel, nor did he define what “full force” would entail.

The move drew swift criticism from Oregon leaders. Governor Tina Kotek insisted Portland remains secure, rejecting the federal intervention as unnecessary. “There is no national security threat in Portland. Our communities are safe and calm,” she said, adding that any deployment “would be an abuse of power.”

Kotek confirmed she is coordinating with Attorney General Dan Rayfield to assess possible legal responses. The deployment marks an escalation in Trump’s broader crackdown on illegal immigration and domestic unrest.
