Chicago – July 15, 2024
A U.S. judge dismissed one of Donald Trump’s criminal cases on Monday, giving the Republican presidential candidate a big win just hours before he was set to announce his vice-presidential pick. Judge Aileen Cannon, who Trump appointed, ruled that the prosecutor who charged Trump with mishandling classified documents wasn’t properly appointed. This decision came two days after Trump survived an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally.
Trump is expected to announce his vice-presidential choice at the 2024 Republican convention in Milwaukee. Leading contenders are Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. Trump will formally accept the party’s nomination on Thursday to run against Democratic President Joe Biden in the November 5 election.
