A 48-year-old Muslim man was allegedly attacked and killed by a group of Hindus in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao on Saturday after he refused to let them throw colors on him during the Holi festival.
The victim, identified as Sharif, was a 45-year-old man from the Qasim Nagar Rabbanna Mosque area in Sadar. He had worked as a driver in Saudi Arabia and had returned home just two months ago.
On Saturday, Sharif was walking to the mosque from his family’s house in Mohalla Kanji when he came across a group of people celebrating Holi near Mohalla Kashif Ali Sarai Chungi Power House. When they threw colors on him, he refused, but they did it again. This led to a fight, which quickly turned into an attack.
Bystanders helped Sharif sit down and gave him water, but soon after, he collapsed and passed away.
The incident has caused tension in the area, and the police have increased their presence, including sending Rapid Response Teams from several stations.
Angry residents took to the streets, demanding the immediate arrest of the people responsible. Despite talks with local officials, the situation remains tense.
