Chicago – June 16, 2025

The NAACP announced on Monday that it will not invite President Donald Trump to its national convention next month in Charlotte, North Carolina. This marks the first time in the organization’s 116-year history that it has decided to exclude a sitting president.

Derrick Johnson, the president of the NAACP, made the announcement during a press conference, stating that Trump’s actions have been harmful to the group’s mission.

“This decision is not about political parties,” Johnson explained. “Our goal is to promote civil rights, and the current president’s actions have made it clear that he is working to take away those rights.”

The White House has not responded to a request for comment.

In recent months, the NAACP has filed several lawsuits against President Trump.
