A group of doctors and public health organizations filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government on Monday over the decision to stop recommending COVID-19 vaccines for most children and pregnant women.
The lawsuit was filed in Boston by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Public Health Association, and four other groups, along with a pregnant doctor who works in a hospital.
Earlier, U.S. health officials had recommended yearly COVID-19 shots for all Americans aged 6 months and older. However, in late May, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that the CDC would no longer recommend COVID-19 vaccinations for healthy children and pregnant women.
Many health experts criticized this decision, saying it was unclear and accused Kennedy of ignoring the scientific review process that has been used for many years to evaluate medical policies.
The lawsuit repeats these concerns, claiming that Kennedy and other government officials ignored federal rules and tried to mislead the public.
