Local Lawmaker Announces Bid for Illinois Senate

In a move that’s expected to shake up the political landscape in the Northwest suburbs, Democratic State Representative Nabeela Syed has announced her candidacy for the Illinois Senate in 2026. Syed, who represents Inverness, is likely to face off against Republican incumbent Darby Hills of Barrington Hills, who was appointed to the 26th Senate seat earlier this year.

In a statement to the media, Syed emphasized her commitment to fighting for the district’s residents on key issues like healthcare, education, and economic growth. “People are tired of partisan games,” Syed said. “They want someone who shows up, listens, and delivers.” Syed pointed to her track record in the House as evidence of her ability to get things done.

Syed’s announcement sets the stage for what’s likely to be a closely watched contest in the Northwest suburbs. With no other candidates having announced their intentions to run, the stage is set for a showdown between Syed and Hills. Voters in the district will be watching closely as the campaign heats up in the coming months.
