Chicago – June 18, 2025

Music legends Bruce Springsteen, Bono and Stevie Wonder are set to join former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama for the grand opening celebrations of the Obama Presidential Center, a landmark project years in the making on Chicago’s South Side.

The star-studded event is expected to draw thousands of visitors, community leaders and dignitaries as the former first family unveils a museum dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the Obama presidency. Organizers say the opening festivities will include live performances, speeches and cultural programs highlighting themes of leadership, civic engagement and social progress.

Springsteen, the iconic American rock musician, has maintained a close friendship with Obama and previously collaborated with him on the podcast and book project Renegades: Born in the USA. Bono, the lead singer of U2 and a longtime advocate for global development initiatives, is also expected to participate in the celebrations. Meanwhile, Stevie Wonder, one of the most influential figures in American music, will perform in honor of the occasion.

The Obama Presidential Center is designed to serve as more than a traditional presidential library. The campus includes a museum, public gathering spaces, educational facilities and community-focused programs aimed at inspiring future generations of leaders.

Speaking about the project, the Obamas have emphasized its mission of empowering young people and encouraging public service. The opening marks a major milestone for the center and for Chicago, the city where Barack Obama launched his political career and where the couple continues to maintain strong ties.
