Hyderabad city and many other districts in Telangana, India, are under a red alert because of very heavy rainfall this week. The government and the weather office have warned everyone that rain could cause floods and make travel unsafe.
Schools in several places—including Medak, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Warangal, and Yadadri Bhongir—are closed or running only for half a day to protect children from the bad weather. In Hyderabad, students only go to school in the morning. IT companies have also been asked to let employees work from home so that fewer people travel while it is rainy and roads are flooded.
Emergency teams and the police are busy helping people in low-lying areas, where water can fill streets and homes quickly. Control rooms are ready in Hyderabad and other districts to answer calls for help. People are told to listen to news updates, stay indoors, and not travel unless really needed.
The Chief Minister has ordered officials to keep a close watch, especially on bridges, canals, and places where the water is rising fast. Officials hope these strong precautions will keep everyone safe.
People in Telangana are hoping the rain stops soon so life can go back to normal.
