Chicago – September 10, 2025

Over 2,000 well-known Hollywood actors and filmmakers, including Emma Stone, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Olivia Colman, have signed an open letter to boycott the Israeli film industry in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The letter, published online by Filmmakers for Palestine, urges the entertainment community to stop supporting Israeli film institutions that are linked to human rights abuses against Palestinians.

The open letter, titled “Film Workers Pledge to End Complicity,” was signed by big names like Ava DuVernay, Adam McKay, and Yorgos Lanthimos. The group’s message is clear: they are calling for a refusal to work with Israeli film organizations that they believe benefit from the country’s system of apartheid and genocide.

While the signatories have pledged to avoid Israeli film companies, they are not calling for a ban on working with individual Israelis. They aim to focus on institutions that support the Israeli government’s policies against Palestinians. The goal is to end support for companies that are seen as promoting or ignoring the human rights violations in Palestine.

This call to action is part of a larger movement that seeks to stand against the ongoing violence and discrimination faced by Palestinians.
