Chicago – September 16, 2025

Palestinian families were seen fleeing Gaza City on Tuesday as Israeli forces intensified a large-scale ground offensive, described by officials in Tel Aviv as one of the most extensive operations since the war began.

Columns of tanks and armored vehicles moved deeper into the city amid heavy bombardments, with Israel declaring that “Gaza is burning” following a new wave of strikes targeting Hamas strongholds.

Military spokespersons said the operation aims to dismantle militant infrastructure and secure key areas believed to be command hubs. Witnesses, however, reported widespread destruction as residential blocks and major thoroughfares came under fire, forcing thousands to evacuate on foot and in overcrowded vehicles.

Humanitarian agencies warned of growing displacement, with shelters stretched far beyond capacity and critical shortages of water, food, and medical supplies.

The offensive marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, signaling Israel’s attempt to establish full ground control over Gaza City. Meanwhile, international organizations renewed calls for restraint, warning that the civilian toll could sharply rise if safe evacuation routes and humanitarian corridors are not urgently secured.
