Night Line: Drone Strike Hits UAE Nuclear Plant as Gulf Tensions Rise Amid Iran War Deadlock

A drone strike ignited a fire at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi officials confirmed Sunday, as diplomatic efforts to end the US-Israeli war with Iran remain deadlocked.

The drone struck an electrical generator outside the plant’s inner perimeter in Al Dhafra. Radiological safety levels remained unaffected and no injuries were reported. Emirati officials did not attribute blame, though the UAE has previously accused Iran of targeting its energy infrastructure.

Saudi Arabia simultaneously reported intercepting three drones that entered from Iraqi airspace, warning it would take necessary operational measures.

More than five weeks after a tenuous ceasefire took effect, US and Iranian demands remain far apart. Washington demands Tehran dismantle its nuclear program and lift its hold on the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran seeks compensation for war damage and an end to the US blockade of Iranian ports.

President Donald Trump has threatened to resume attacks if Iran rejects a deal, as the Strait blockade triggers the worst global oil supply crisis in history.

No group has claimed responsibility for the nuclear plant strike, but Iran has repeatedly targeted Gulf states hosting US military bases during this conflict.
