Chicago – November 21, 2025

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, once a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, has announced her resignation from Congress effective January 5, 2026. The surprising decision follows a public and intense fallout with Trump, who recently labeled her a “traitor” and “wacky” after Greene criticized his policies and questioned his commitment to the “America First” agenda.

In a detailed video message, Greene expressed that loyalty should be mutual, and disclosed her frustration with being sidelined by the current Republican establishment and Trump’s faction. She cited her desire to protect her family and supporters from a “hurtful and hateful primary” battle instigated by Trump’s backing of a rival candidate. Greene also highlighted her objections to Trump’s reluctance to release Jeffrey Epstein-related documents and diverging views on foreign policy, including Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Elected in 2020, Greene gained notoriety for her outspoken style and alignment with the MAGA movement, often courting controversy through unconventional views. Her resignation will prompt a special election in her strongly Republican district, narrowing the GOP majority in the House. Greene indicated eagerness to embark on a new chapter beyond Congress.

This development signals a notable shift in the dynamics within the Republican Party ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
