LOS ANGELES — The U.S. attorney’s office in Los Angeles announced Friday it has opened “multiple election fraud investigations” related to California’s elections and sent a prosecutor to the county’s vote-counting center.
U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, a Trump appointee, stated on X that California’s elections exhibit “serious structural vulnerabilities,” citing universal vote-by-mail without voter ID requirements as conditions where fraud could go undetected. The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the FBI’s Los Angeles division.
An assistant U.S. attorney visited Los Angeles County’s primary ballot processing center Friday morning, receiving an overview of the public observation program and participating in a walkthrough of operations. County spokesperson Mike Sanchez confirmed no subpoenas or warrants were served during the visit.
The announcement marks an escalation in President Trump’s campaign against the Democratic-led state, whose prolonged vote count has fueled election conspiracy theories. Campaign officials for Los Angeles mayor Carlos Hilton stated they observed nothing illegal during their monitoring of the count.
