Chicago – November 29, 2025

Rahul Gandhi said that many mothers have told him that their children are “growing up breathing toxic air,” and described the situation as a “health emergency.”

In a post on X, he wrote: “Modi ji, India’s children are choking in front of us. How can you stay silent?” — urging the government for “urgency, accountability, and a strict, enforceable action plan.”

He demanded an immediate detailed parliamentary debate and concrete measures to address the worsening air-quality situation.

The capital region’s air quality index (AQI) recently registered “very poor” or even “severe” values — for example, overall AQI around 384 was reported.

According to reporting, the hazardous AQI has triggered alarm among parents: respiratory problems, worsening lung/health risks, and long-term concerns for children.

Some medical/air-quality experts stress that prolonged exposure to such air pollution can lead to lung diseases, reduced lung function, and exacerbation of existing respiratory or cardiac conditions — especially dangerous for young children.
