Chicago – December 13, 2025

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has convened a group of more than 100 elected officials to serve on an advisory committee, seeking their insight and partnership on his affordability agenda as he prepares to take office in just three weeks.

The Elected Advisory Committee, which met for the first time at District Council 37 headquarters in lower Manhattan Friday afternoon, is composed of a wide range of city, state and congressional leaders. About 75 of the committee members attended the afternoon meeting, according to a spokesperson for Mamdani’s transition team.

There’s big names like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Attorney General Letitia James – key backers for Mamdani in the Democratic primary. State powerhouses with broad authority over the mayor-elect’s ability to enact his ambitious agenda such as Gov. Kathy Hochul, state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie are also included.

As are a bevy of New York City leaders, including Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, incoming Comptroller Mark Levine, all four Democratic borough presidents, outgoing comptroller Brad Lander and 31 council members. That includes Council Member Chi Ossé, who Mamdani urged Democratic Socialists of America members not to endorse in a Congressional bid against House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Jeffries himself is also a member despite waiting until the final days before the general election to endorse Mamdani.

Perhaps as significant as who Mamdani included on the committee, are those not included. The press release announcing the group described it as those who’ve “endorsed and championed Mamdani’s movement to deliver an affordable New York City,” making some of the snubs unsurprising.
