A tragic shooting outside a Salt Lake City church on Wednesday night left two adults dead and six others injured while mourners gathered inside for a memorial service, according to local authorities. The incident occurred in the rear parking lot of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building, sending shockwaves through the surrounding community.
Police confirmed that all victims were adults and that at least three of the injured were transported to hospitals in critical condition. As of Wednesday night, no suspect had been taken into custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
What Happened Outside the LDS Church?
The shooting unfolded during an evening memorial service being held inside the red-brick church, located in a northwest Salt Lake City neighborhood. The congregation primarily serves members of the Tongan community and regularly conducts services in their native language.Authorities stated that gunfire erupted in the church’s back parking lot, where several people were gathered. Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd said investigators do not believe the shooting was motivated by religious hatred or targeted toward the faith itself.
