Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are planning to move back to Britain later this month, six years after stepping down from royal duties and relocating to the United States, multiple credible news outlets reported on Wednesday.
The couple will relocate from their Montecito, California home with their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, who are enrolled to start school in Britain in September, according to The Telegraph and People magazine. They will reside in a private, non-royal residence believed to be outside London, and will maintain their status as non-working royals, continuing their commercial ventures while living as private citizens.
King Charles III was informed of the decision on Sunday, though the move was not discussed during the Sussexes’ visit to Britain earlier this summer when they met with the monarch, sources told The New York Times.
While the family intends to make the UK their primary home for an extended period, it remains unclear whether the relocation will be permanent, as they will retain their California residence and vacation property in Portugal.
Representatives for Harry and Meghan have not issued an immediate public statement regarding the surprise return.
