The United States has approved multibillion-dollar weapons sales to both Israel and Saudi Arabia, a move that comes at a time of heightened regional tensions involving Iran.
On Friday, the US State Department confirmed it had authorized major defense packages, including a significant sale to Israel as the country maintains a fragile ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
According to the State Department, the US has green-lighted a $3.8 billion defense sale to Israel, which includes 30 Apache attack helicopters. The approval comes while Israel continues to operate under a fragile ceasefire in Gaza, aimed at maintaining stability after years of conflict.
In an official statement, the State Department reaffirmed Washington’s long-standing commitment to Israeli defense, stating: “The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability.
