James Van Der Beek, the beloved star of “Dawson’s Creek,” has died at 48 after battling colorectal cancer.

Van Der Beek rose to fame as Dawson Leery in the 1998-2003 teen drama “Dawson’s Creek,” capturing hearts with his portrayal of youthful angst and romance. He also starred in films like “Varsity Blues” and appeared in series such as “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23,” often playing a satirical version of himself. His final role was in the 2024 romantic comedy “Sidelined 2: The QB in Me.”

Health Battle

Diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in November 2024—though some reports note earlier detection in 2023—Van Der Beek faced his illness privately before going public. He withdrew from a 2025 “Dawson’s Creek” benefit reading due to health issues but sent a video message.

Family and Tributes

He passed peacefully on February 11, 2026, survived by wife Kimberly and six children. A family Instagram post praised his courage, requesting privacy. Celebrities mourned the loss of the charismatic actor.
