Chicago – April 19, 2026

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday announced that American envoys would travel to Pakistan for renewed talks with Iran, saying the delegation would seek a deal before a ceasefire deadline later this week. The White House said Vice President JD Vance would lead the team, joined by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, according to reports from AP and other outlets.

Iran, however, signaled it would not join the new round under current conditions. State media reported that Tehran objected to what it called Washington’s “excessive demands,” “unrealistic expectations” and continued military pressure, casting doubt on any immediate breakthrough.

Trump also warned of further strikes if Iran rejected the U.S. terms, escalating pressure ahead of the proposed Islamabad meeting.

Pakistan has positioned itself as a mediator, hosting previous rounds of U.S.-Iran discussions.
