Iranian human rights activist and 2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi has returned home after being discharged from a hospital in Tehran, according to statements from her supporters and family foundation.
Mohammadi, 54, had been transferred from prison to hospital earlier this month after reportedly suffering serious cardiac complications and episodes of unconsciousness. Her supporters say she spent more than two weeks receiving treatment, including cardiac care and physiotherapy.
Her family and supporters have urged Iranian authorities not to send her back to prison, warning that her health remains fragile and that continued detention could endanger her life.
Narges Mohammadi won the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize for her advocacy for women’s rights and human rights in Iran while she was imprisoned. She has faced repeated arrests and prison sentences over her activism, including criticism of Iran’s mandatory hijab laws and opposition to the death penalty.
