Conservative influencer Nick Shirley has filed a federal lawsuit against Californialeadership in hopes of preventing a recently signed bill aimed at protecting the identifiable information of immigration service providers from going into effect.
The bill at the center of the lawsuit is Assembly Bill 2624, also dubbed the “Stop Nick Shirley” Act by opponents of the legislation, which extends existing privacy protections in the state’s Safe at Home program, allowing immigration support service providers, employees, or volunteers to remove their names and addresses from public records and add them to a confidential address list.
For months, this bill faced significant pushback from Republican state legislators and Shirley, who previously gained national attention for publishing online videos of himself touring allegedly “abandoned” immigrant-run daycares in Minnesota that receive public funding.
