Chicago – August 21, 2026
The FBI has searched the Washington, D.C., home of former Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct, according to people familiar with the matter. Federal agents also seized electronic devices from Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport before executing the search warrant at his home the following day.
The investigation follows allegations by several women, including claims of sexual assault and accusations that Swalwell sent unsolicited explicit messages or images. Swalwell has denied the allegations, while acknowledging what he described as “mistakes in judgment.”
Swalwell resigned from Congress in April 2026 and withdrew from the California governor’s race after the allegations became public. Separate investigations have also been opened by authorities in New York and Los Angeles.
Neither the FBI nor the Justice Department has publicly detailed the scope of the federal investigation. The search itself does not establish wrongdoing, and no criminal charges against Swalwell have been announced in connection with the probe.
