Chicago – August 21, 2026
Actress Sandra Bullock has spoken publicly for the first time about the emotional toll of caring for her longtime partner, photographer Bryan Randall, during his private battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Randall died in August 2023 at age 57 after a three-year battle with the disease. His family had previously said that he chose to keep his diagnosis private.
In an interview on the SmartLess podcast, Bullock said Randall asked her not to reveal his illness, a request she respected. She said maintaining the secrecy left her feeling isolated, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bullock, 62, said she had begun grieving Randall years before his death as his condition deteriorated. She also described the difficulty of caring for him while raising their children.
The couple began dating in 2015 and remained largely private about their relationship. Bullock is now returning to the screen with Practical Magic 2, continuing a gradual return to public life after years away from Hollywood.
