Chicago – August 21, 2026

Pakistan’s imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan was transferred from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination following an order by the Supreme Court. The move came after months of concerns raised by his family and lawyers over his health, particularly reported deterioration in the vision of his right eye.

The court directed that Khan be examined by a medical panel that includes specialists and his personal physician, Dr. Faisal Sultan. The government had challenged the order but ultimately facilitated the transfer.

Khan, 73, has been imprisoned since August 2023 and faces convictions and ongoing legal proceedings in several cases. He denies wrongdoing and maintains that the cases against him are politically motivated. The government rejects that characterization.

After undergoing examinations at the private hospital, Khan was returned to Adiala Jail early Friday. Government officials said the medical team found him fit, while his party continues to express concern about his health and access to appropriate medical care.
