Chicago – February 02, 2025

A group of powerful Arab nations rejected President Donald Trump’s idea of relocating Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan.

On Saturday, foreign ministers from Qatar, Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, and leaders from the Palestine Liberation Organization and the League of Arab States met in Cairo, Egypt, and issued a joint statement.

The statement emphasized their full support for the Palestinian people and their rights, as protected by international law. It strongly rejected any actions that violated these rights, such as settlement building, home demolitions, land annexation, or forcing Palestinians to leave their land.

The leaders also made it clear that they opposed any efforts to relocate Palestinians from Gaza, calling such ideas dangerous for regional peace and stability.

Trump had suggested that Egypt and Jordan could take in about 1.5 million Palestinians from Gaza. However, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi both stated their countries would never accept this idea.

Egypt and Jordan were the first Arab nations to make peace with Israel but still support the creation of a Palestinian state with Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
