Chicago February 23, 2025

The Senate GOP has been moving quickly to confirm President Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks, outpacing his predecessors in the process. As of now, 18 of the 22 Cabinet positions have been filled, with former Sen. Kelly Loeffler being the latest to join the team as head of the Small Business Administration.

Last week’s confirmation of Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick marked a milestone, making him the 17th official to take office. This puts Trump ahead of former President Joe Biden, who had only seven nominees confirmed at this point in 2021.

In fact, Trump’s Cabinet is taking shape faster than any of his recent predecessors. Former President Barack Obama had only 16 Cabinet officials confirmed by February 18, 2009, during his first term. It took Obama 36 days to get 17 Cabinet nominees confirmed, while Biden didn’t reach that mark until 56 days into his presidency.
