Chicago – April 04, 2025

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is planning to cut its workforce by at least 25% starting this Friday, with layoffs included. This decision is part of the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to reduce the size of the federal government.

Along with the layoffs, the IRS is also closing its Office of Civil Rights and Compliance. This office was responsible for making sure taxpayers were not treated unfairly during audits or investigations. Employees from this office will be moved to other parts of the agency.

White House spokesperson Liz Huston told Fox News Digital that this move is part of President Trump’s plan to save money, remove unnecessary offices, and make the IRS more efficient. The goal is to make the agency more effective while cutting down on wasteful spending, as outlined in an executive order from President Trump.

Additionally, the IRS will offer programs that encourage employees to retire early or leave voluntarily. More information about these programs will be shared with employees soon.
