Chicago – April 05, 2025

Thousands of people gathered in Washington, D.C., and across the United States on Saturday to protest against President Donald Trump and his billionaire supporter Elon Musk. The protests, expected to be the largest of their kind, were part of about 1,200 demonstrations across the country.

In Washington, D.C., the crowd gathered around the Washington Monument despite gloomy skies and light rain. Organizers told Reuters that more than 20,000 people were expected at the National Mall rally. Around 150 activist groups had signed up for the event, and protests were planned in all 50 states, as well as in Canada and Mexico.

Terry Klein, a retired biomedical scientist from Princeton, New Jersey, attended the rally to protest a wide range of policies, including immigration, tariffs, and education. “Our whole country is under attack, all of our institutions,” Klein said.

The crowd grew larger throughout the day. Some protesters carried Ukrainian flags, while others wore Palestinian keffiyeh scarves and held “Free Palestine” signs. U.S. House Democrats also spoke at the rally, criticizing Trump’s policies.
