Scientist Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed, who hails from Bihar’s Darbhanga district, has earned recognition for his contribution to India’s space programme through his role in the EOS-05 Earth-observation satellite mission.
Ahmed has been associated with the mission as its Project Director/Spacecraft Director. The satellite was launched aboard the GSLV-F17 rocket from Sriharikota on September 4, 2026, marking another significant milestone for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Reports identify Ahmed with Revda village in Darbhanga, making his achievement a source of pride for people in his native region. His involvement in major satellite programmes is not new; he was also associated with the INSAT-3DS meteorological satellite mission launched in 2024.
Ahmed’s journey from Bihar to leading responsibilities in India’s space programme serves as an inspiration for young students. His story highlights how scientific talent from India’s towns and villages can contribute to ambitious national missions in space technology.
