Chicago – February 06, 2026

A deadly explosion struck Imambargah Khadijah-tul-Kubra in Islamabad’s Tarlai area, causing multiple casualties and leaving dozens injured during a religious gathering. According to eyewitnesses, several wounded victims were seen lying in the garden outside the imambargah as people desperately called for medical assistance following the blast.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that the attack had links to foreign elements, alleging involvement from India and Afghanistan. In a statement shared on social media platform X, Asif said investigations had revealed that the attacker had traveled to and from Afghanistan.

He further alleged growing coordination between India and Afghanistan, describing it as an emerging collusion aimed at destabilizing Pakistan. Detailing the incident, Asif said security personnel at the imambargah confronted the attacker, who then opened fire before detonating himself while standing in the last row of worshippers.

The defence minister warned that the state would respond to the incident with full force, calling the attack an act of extreme cruelty. He accused India of waging a proxy war against Pakistan after suffering what he termed a humiliating defeat.
Later, Asif pointed to the timing of the attack, noting it occurred on the same day Pakistan signed significant agreements with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and as cultural festivities like Basant were being revived.

He said the attack appeared to be a deliberate attempt to derail Pakistan’s progress, adding that India lacked the capacity for a direct confrontation and was instead using proxies to disrupt peace within the country.
