Deadly Attack in Gaza Kills Five Israeli Soldiers

Five Israeli soldiers were killed in a deadly attack by Hamas fighters in Beit Hanoun, a town in northern Gaza, late night. The soldiers, aged between 20 and 28, were part of a patrol that was ambushed by Hamas militants who used explosive devices and gunfire. When more soldiers came to rescue the wounded, they were also attacked, causing more casualties. Two other soldiers were seriously hurt and taken for medical treatment.

According to Israeli military officials, this was one of the deadliest days for their forces this year. Since the conflict began in October 2023, about 888 Israeli soldiers have died. The recent loss has increased pressure on the Israeli government, especially as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Washington meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss a possible ceasefire agreement.

The incident has caused more debate inside Israel. Many military leaders and citizens want the fighting to stop and support a proposed 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of hostages. But Netanyahu’s government, especially members of his right-wing coalition, say there can be no peace deal until Hamas is completely disarmed. The nation remains divided on what should happen next.
