Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is considering taking Google to court over the company’s decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico to “Gulf of America” on Google Maps. The change was made after President Donald Trump signed an executive order, saying the new name “has a beautiful ring”.

Google Maps users in the US will see the new name, while users outside the US and Mexico will see both “Gulf of Mexico” and “Gulf of America”. Sheinbaum argues that the original name has been recognized internationally for a long time and is asking Google to revise the change.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also started updating the name in its systems. However, it’s worth noting that the US government’s official decree doesn’t refer to the entire gulf, according to Sheinbaum.
