Senate Scrambles to Pass Trump’s Tax Bill
The Senate is working late into the night to pass President Donald Trump’s tax bill, which includes significant tax breaks and spending cuts. Senate Majority Leader John Thune is trying to convince all Republicans to support the bill, but some are worried about the potential impact on Medicaid. Vice President JD Vance is ready to break a tie vote if needed.

Challenges and Controversies
The bill, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” has sparked intense debate. Democrats are united against it, warning that it could increase the national debt and harm social programs like Medicaid. The bill’s proposed cuts to Medicaid have also raised concerns among some Republicans. Despite these challenges, Republicans are racing against the clock to pass the bill before the July 4 deadline.

What’s at Stake
If passed, the bill would make permanent individual and business tax breaks enacted in 2017. It would also add temporary new breaks for certain groups and raise the US debt ceiling by $5 trillion. However, critics argue that it would benefit the wealthy at the expense of the poor. With the deadline looming, Senate Republicans are working hard to finalize the bill and send it to the House for approval.
