Chicago – January 31, 2026

Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville believes former Vice President Kamala Harris has “no chance” in winning the presidency in 2028 if she decides to run.

Instead, he has his money set on one Democrat: Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.

During an interview with Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo, Carville emphasized that Democrats need to ask themselves “two really important questions” to win over the nomination.

The first, according to Carville, is whether they can “raise a lot of early money.”

“Because no matter how they set it up… when it happens, it happens quickly,” Carville said in comments released Wednesday.

Carville pointed to Pritzker, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) — all of whom he said already have donors as leaders of big states.

He then emphasized the importance of winning the Black vote, saying he would “take” Pritzker if he had to pick one person if he were “betting the Kentucky Derby.”

“He campaigns hard,” Carville said of Pritzker, who has recently sparred with President Donald Trump over deploying National Guard troops in Chicago.

When asked about Harris, Carville said that no Democrat “wants anything to do with anybody that had anything to do with 2024.” Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee that year after former President Joe Biden made the sudden decision to drop out of the race in July, leaving her with 107 days to campaign.
