Trump and Musk in a Heated Debate
US President Donald Trump has suggested that the government efficiency department review the subsidies received by Elon Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, to save money. This move has sparked a war of words between the two influential figures. Trump’s remarks came after Musk criticized the tax-cut and spending bill, vowing to unseat lawmakers who supported it despite campaigning on limiting government spending.

The Impact on Tesla and SpaceX
Tesla shares fell nearly 5% in premarket trading following Trump’s comments. Feuding with Trump could create hurdles for Tesla and SpaceX, which rely heavily on federal support. SpaceX has about $22 billion in federal contracts, and the US Transportation Department regulates vehicle design, including Tesla’s robotaxis. Trump’s proposal to review subsidies might affect these companies’ operations and innovation.

A Deeper Conflict
Trump’s criticism of Musk’s companies highlights a broader debate about government intervention in the economy and innovation. Trump claims that without subsidies, Musk’s ventures would struggle significantly, saying “Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history.” Musk, however, asserts that Tesla could endure without incentives, despite potential setbacks in profitability and growth. This clash embodies ideological battles over government support for private industries.
