US President Donald Trump has announced plans to ask Congress to strengthen crime laws in the US. Speaking at a White House press conference, Trump expressed concerns about violent crime in cities like Washington D.C., Chicago, and New York. He specifically targeted no-cash bail policies, which allow accused criminals to be released from jail without paying a cash bond before their trial.

Trump described no-cash bail policies as “a disaster” and called on Congress to end these reforms. He also announced that the Department of Justice would draft legislation to address the issue. Additionally, Trump revealed plans to put the US capital’s police department under federal control and deploy 800 National Guard troops. Jeanine Pirro, the top federal prosecutor in Washington, supported Trump’s stance, arguing that more juveniles should be charged as adults.

It remains unclear how Trump intends to implement these changes, as no-cash bail policies are often determined by state law. The Justice Department has not commented on the proposal. Trump’s announcement is part of a broader effort to address violent crime in the US, but its impact and feasibility remain to be seen.
