Chicago – January 26, 2026

Consul General of India in Chicago, Somnath Ghosh, unfurled the Tricolour at the Consulate premises to mark the 77th Republic Day of India, in the presence of members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India.

The ceremony began with the national flag hoisting and singing of the National Anthem, followed by the reading of the Hon’ble President of India’s address to the nation, which reaffirmed India’s constitutional values of democracy, unity and national pride.

In his remarks, the Consul General highlighted India’s progress and the growing strength of the India–US partnership, and lauded the contributions of the Indian community in the US Midwest.

The formal ceremony was followed by a brief cultural programme, featuring patriotic songs and performances by local artistes and community groups, organized to highlight the 150th year of the national song “Vande Mataram.” Attendees also interacted over light refreshments, reflecting on India’s democratic journey and the enduring significance of Republic Day for Indians abroad.
