Chicago – June 13, 2026

Iran has officially announced the schedule for funeral ceremonies of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with rites beginning July 4 and burial set for July 9, according to state media reports published June 13.

The six-day funeral program will commence with three days of ceremonies in Tehran starting July 4, followed by a funeral event in the holy city of Qom on July 7. The proceedings will conclude with Khamenei’s burial in his hometown of Mashhad, where he will be interred at the shrine of Imam Reza on July 9.

Khamenei, who ruled Iran for nearly 37 years until his death on February 28 from US-Israeli airstrikes, will be buried alongside his daughter and son-in-law, who were also killed in earlier attacks. Iranian state broadcaster IRIB confirmed that farewell ceremonies, funeral rites, and burial arrangements will take place between July 4 and July 9 across Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad.

The announcement comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the US-Iran conflict, with President Donald Trump expressing optimism about a potential agreement.
