Chicago – March 09, 2026

In a landmark appointment, Saba Shawl has been posted as Superintendent of Central Jail Srinagar, becoming the first Kashmiri woman to lead the high-security facility in Jammu and Kashmir.

The transfer, formalized under Government Order No. 145-Home of 2026 dated March 2, moves her from Staff Officer to the Director General of Prisons.

A Peerbagh, Srinagar resident with a Master’s in Social Work, Shawl cleared the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission exam in 2012, securing the sole open merit spot for Superintendent of Police (Prisons).

Her career includes stints at Central Jail Kothbalwal, District Jail Kupwara, Prisons Headquarters, and as Public Relations Officer, blending field and administrative expertise.
